Pedro Marques: “We will achieve this reduction” of tolls inside – Jornal de Negócios – Portugal

The Government will begin negotiations in May with the dealer A23 (Beira Interior), which now holds the toll revenue this motorway. This is so that the government can proceed with discounts on tolls inside the motorways.

Pedro Marques, Minister of Infrastructure, revealed this Tuesday, April 26 in Parliament that this is a case that is delaying the intention of the Executive to reduce the tolls. The technical preparatory work are made. Pedro Marques, as in other cases, took to shoot the previous government, saying that these were jobs that were not completed so that it could lower the price of tolls inside the motorways or those whose alternative routes are inadequate, as is the if the A22, or the Via do Infante in the Algarve.

Pedro Marques reinforces the intention of reducing the costs of tolls, but said he had had a “negative surprise”, related to the A23, which toll revenue went to the dealer. The result is now the state had to “start negotiations” with the dealership, what will happen, said Pedro Marques, “from this May.”

Despite the difficulties, Pedro Marques takes: “We will achieve this reduction, promote mobility, but we are bound by the nature of negotiation made by the previous government,” admitting that the state may have costs that negotiation. “We will start negotiations to achieve during the summer to reduce tolls. If it were not so we would make by order such a reduction, but we can not by the previous government decision.”

At various points, Pedro Marques threw the government PSD / CDS. This was the case of tolls, but also of the PPP (public private partnerships) on the roads, saying that only nine renegotiations were completed and away from the goal of cutting seven billion cost. “We are work ahead in this field. The Government [previous] could not be argued with savings from renegotiations that did not complete.”
