There is one more site to legally play for money in Portugal. The company Estoril Sol, which manages the casinos of Estoril, Lisbon and Povoa de Varzim, received the license to spend the available online games and has already released the game service in Estorilcasinos.pt site.

license, which is valid for three years and may be renewed, was awarded on Thursday by the Commission of Tourism of Portugal’s games, the company said in a statement sent to the Portuguese Securities Market Commission. The site provides access to online versions of games like roulette, blackjack (letters) and slots .

Estoril Sol thus becomes the third party to receive the authorization to legally operate gaming sites. The first license was given in May this year the Maltese company behind the popular website Betclic.pt, specializing in sports betting. The second was awarded to another company based in Malta, responsible for Bet.pt site also focused on various sports.

The law to regulate this kind of activity came into force in mid-2015 after more than a decade of discussions, which started in 2003, still in the Barroso Government. Following the international loan of 2011, the troika of creditors included the regulation of online gambling in the list of measures to be applied – at the time under strong criticism from the casinos. However, apart from the Estoril Sol also Amorim Turismo, which operates the casino in Figueira da Foz, has shown interest in this type of activity, considering to extend to other Portuguese-speaking countries.

If you plan to stay out of online gambling is the Holy House, responsible for games like Lotto and EuroMillions. The institution said late last year that did not intend to apply for a license, justifying the decision to “the nature and statutory purposes that [Santa Casa] goes on.” A little less than a year, the Santa Casa launched Placard, a game with a newsletter on paper and with a logic similar to that of sports betting websites.
