The first public initiative that will benefit from the support of the future Environment Fund, the new name of the mechanism that will replace the Portuguese Carbon Fund and see expanded its object of action, will be in the area of ​​decarbonisation economy and increased electric mobility network. From 15 September until the end November, municipalities or management companies that make environmental services to municipalities may apply for support for the purchase of electric vehicles. The Environment Fund is expected to contribute a sum of ten million euros.

The competition will be launched still under the aegis of the Portuguese Carbon Fund, because the Environmental Fund only enters into force on 1 January but should be only after this period that the applications will be assessed and approved. The expectations of the Government pointed out that this contest will allow support for acquisition of around 1,700 cars by 65 municipalities.
