Centeno argues for relief of the Greek debt – Expressed

The minister of Finance, Portuguese, Mário Centeno, argued that the European Union should discuss the relief of the Greek debt, and should even move forward without the International Monetary Fund, reported the German press.

"we Have to begin this discussion," said Centeno in an interview to the newspaper "Bild", the German daily with the widest circulation in the country.

Mário Centeno recalled that "the european monetary union now has institutions very strong". "We can deal with most problems on their own", she stressed.

The Finance minister further said that the Stability and Growth Pact in Europe should be reworked and replaced, adding that the debts of the countries have "much room for improvement".

The Greece and international creditors have failed to an agreement on the reform of the Greek labour market, after negotiations that lasted until the morning of Tuesday, reported the German agency DPA.

The goal is to reach an agreement until the beginning of December, when the Finance ministers of the Euro zone plan to discuss the relief of the Greek debt.

The German Finance minister, Wolfgang Schauble, has already ruled out debt relief for Greece before 2018, indicating that might weaken efforts to enact new reforms, according to the German press.
