Lufthansa cancels 876 flights marked for Wednesday – the Daily News – Lisbon

About 100 thousand passengers will be affected by the strike of pilots of German airline

The German airline Lufthansa will cancel 876 3,000 flights it had scheduled for Wednesday due to a strike of pilots which will affect the 100,000 passengers.

Lufthansa announced today that it will operate 2.124 flights of the 3,000 that were scheduled and needed that will be affected the routes of short and long course.

The protest of the pilots of Lufthansa will not affect the subsidiaries Eurowings, Swiss, Austrian Airlines, Air Dolomiti and Brussels Airlines.

Of the 876 flights affected, 51 are international connections, calculating them to be affected about 100,000 passengers.

Lufthansa said on Monday that the strike, called by the union Vereinigung Cockpit, is the wrong path for the negotiation of the collective agreement and stated that they did not understand the refusal of the trade union to resolve the dispute through a mediator as a neutral.

This will be the 14.Th strike of pilots of Lufthansa since April 2014.

Today, the cabin staff of Eurowings, a low-cost airline group, is to make a strike of 15 hours (from 05:00 to 20:00 local, least one hour in Lisbon) at the airports of Hamburg and Dusseldorf.

The strike forced the cancellation of at least 66 flights, especially connections to domestic airlines, but also some connections to Prague and Vienna.

The strike by cabin staff of the Eurowings was called by the trade union in the sector of services Verdi, which asks for a salary increase to 460 employees and supplements according to the function.
