IP moves forward with modernization of the Beira Baixa line – Jornal de Negócios – Portugal

The Infrastructure of Portugal (IP) has already launched the tender for the modernisation of the section Covilhã/Guarda, Beira Baixa line, with a base price of 65 million euros. The value of the contract in addition, the second explained the company in the presentation of the project this Tuesday in the Guard, the costs of studies and projects, expropriations, supervision, materials supply and signalling, the other 23 million euros.

The intervention in the Beira Baixa Line, according to IP, involves the complete overhaul of 36 kilometres of track and the electrification of the connection between the cities of Guarda and Covilhã, is disabled since 2009. It also includes the rehabilitation of six railway bridges are centuries old, the refurbishment of three stations and apeadeiros, drainage and slope stabilization and the installation of signalling, electronics and telecommunications.

in Addition to the modernization plan of the section Covilhã-Guard was also presented the draft of the agreement that saw the Beira Alta Line, in a ceremony that counted with the presence of the minister for Planning and Infrastructure, Pedro Marques. Both rail lines investments are expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.

The Plan for the Railroad to 2020 envisages an overall investment of € 2.7 billion. In the context of this plan have already been launched the works on the lines of the Douro, Minho and North.

On the Douro Line has advanced the project for the electrification of the section Caíde-Marco, an investment of around 6.2 million euros. In the Minho, the electrification of the section between Nine and Viana do Castelo, in the amount of about 16 million, as well as the works of construction of the traction supply to Vila Fria (3.7 million), of the signaling system of section Nine/ Valença (8.8 million) and the abolition of the level crossing in Midões and construction of the underpass road (800 thousand euros).

Already the upgrading of the section between Alfarelos and Pampilhosa, in the North Line, a distance of 35 kilometers, represents an investment amounting to 30.5 million euros.
