The unemployment rate was 10.5% in the third quarter of this year, down 0.3 percentage points on the previous quarter and by 1.4 points compared with the second quarter, revealed this Wednesday, November 9, the National Institute of Statistics (INE).
this is again the unemployment rate lower since the beginning of this series, which begins in 2011.
in A quarter in which the active population increased, were created 59 thousand jobs in the chain, a variation of 1.3%, “which represents a deceleration compared to the quarterly growth” that had been registered before, note the INE.
In homologous terms, there are now over 86 thousand people are officially employed, an increase of 1.9%, a trend that in the annual comparison became the norm since the end of 2013.
This year on year growth is mainly due to the rise in employment among men, people between 45 and 64, who have higher education, and of the employed, especially with a no-term contract.
it Is mainly the services sector that explains the creation of employment, both in terms of quarterly or year-on-year. The ratings for “transport and storage and communication activities” and the financial and insurance activities have lower rates year-on-year in two digits.
Although not directly comparable with the monthly data of the employment, so why adopt another methodology (not adjusted for seasonality, for example), these values relating to rate of unemployment – which are, traditionally, the official data – are below those that have been disclosed to the monthly statistics. They also pointed in the direction of deceleration
long-term Unemployment recedes but it is a majority
After a reduction in year-on-year (-11,2%) and chain (-1,8%), there is now 549,5 thousand unemployed. This evolution also resulted from the reduction of long-term unemployment, which affects however, almost two-thirds of the total unemployed.
Explains that the INE, the number of people seeking employment there are twelve months or more has also decreased by 11.2% yoy. However, these people still represent 63.2% of the total unemployed.
