The authorities in Russia announced on Tuesday, the arrest of the minister of the Economy, Alexy Ulyukayev, suspected of having received a bribe of two million dollars in a business that involves the state-owned oil company Rosnet.
Alexy Ulyukayev, who has been caught in the act, was detained in the context of an investigation related to corruption on a large scale, according to a statement from the Investigation Committee of Russia. This is the main investigating agency of the Russian federation which reports directly to the President of the country Vladimir Putin.
The minister is suspected of having received two million dollars (1.8 million euros) in exchange for the approval of the acquisition by Rosnet of a stake in another Russian oil, the Bachneft, adds the same note. The Rosneft is a state-owned oil company whose directors are considered to be very close to the Russian president.
according to the BBC, Ulyukayev may face a prison sentence of between eight and 15 years.
Ulyukayev occupies the highest office in the Russia to be the target of a detention since the attempted coup of 1991, according to the news agencies international.
