Brussels hopes that the Box for “follow up” after the recapitalisation – the Renaissance (press release)

The european commissioner for Competition, Margrethe Vestager, said on Wednesday that it is monitoring the developments in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD), and expecting the bank to “go ahead” after the recapitalisation.

“We’re in normal contact with the Portuguese Government for this and the new administration of the Box tell how the case will follow,” he said at a press conference.

On Monday, the Portuguese minister of Finance said there was no reason to question the agreement with the European Commission over the recapitalization of a public bank, because the new executive chairman, Paulo Macedo, “meets the requirements”.

Mário Centeno ensured that the process of recapitalisation is expected to proceed as expected.
