“I was the only person who tried to change the course of things,” stressed José Maria Ricciardi at his hearing in the parliamentary committee of inquiry to BES case, adding that last year there were two attempts to depart from their duties.
“There were two attempts to put me on the street. First, in November 2013 and later, in June 2014,” he told MPs.
“I never thought that` holdings` were insolvent. I always thought that the debt would be paid, “he said.
According to Ricciardi, in addition to multiple news that went out in the media about his “lust for power” that would justify the fight with his cousin Ricardo Salgado, the former chairman of BES, was regarded with suspicion within the organization.
“I was seen as a traitor, informer, the person who made` trade off` with the Bank of Portugal. And if it was not my greed for power, the GES still persisted, “he said.
Ricciardi also pointed to the cases which had been filed by the Public Ministry (MP), which however fell without charge.
“There was MP processes about things that did not and this has been confirmed, but walked in the newspapers with these suspicions,” he lamented.
“I tried my best,” he said, noting that “bop recognized” and maintained its integrity, which allowed him to stay ahead of BES Investimento.
Moreover, it is the only family member who belonged to the BES management team led by Ricardo Salgado, who continues to play a prominent position in front of a financial institution.
