The Portuguese investment generated 9,834 jobs in 2014.
The Portuguese direct investment in Mozambique reached 336 million dollars (300.35 million euros) in 2014 , almost double the 171 million recorded in 2013, and continues to be what creates jobs in the country.
Despite falling from third to fourth position in the “ranking” of the main investors in Mozambique and having declined from 168 to 98 the number of projects approved in 2014 Portugal had the most representative year since 2009, according to the Agency for Investment and Foreign Trade of Portugal (AICEP) and the Embassy of Portugal in Maputo that the Lusa had access on Wednesday.
The Portuguese direct investment in partnership with Mozambican capital increases amounts to around 420 million dollars (375.44 million euros) and shoot for a total of 854 million dollars (763.40 million), adding up the debt operations. 2014 indicators were stimulated by the energy sector, which received 37.5% of Portuguese direct investment and 49.3% of the total in partnership with Mozambican investors, thanks to the central design of thermoelectric Buzi and that also puts the Sofala province in central Mozambique, leadership in the distribution of the data by region.
The services with 26%, construction and public works (24.9%) and industry (6.2%) were the other sectors that received Portuguese direct investment in Mozambique last year, and that, in Sofala, concentrated in Maputo.
The Portuguese investment generated 9,834 jobs in 2014, more than half in the sector of public works and construction, remaining as the main external employer in Mozambique.
