The tax authority and customs introduced last year, 137 disciplinary proceedings to employees who unjustifiably accessed data contributors, including the opened following consultation of tax data Pedro Passos Coelho. Are 12 more than in 2013 and already include 27 open following a consultation of fiscal data of the Prime Minister.

The cases arise from the internal audit procedures that are opened when there are suspected violations of confidentiality in respect of a taxpayer.

The cases stem from internal audit processes which, according to official sources of the Ministry of Finance quoted by the ‘Daily News’, are open when the Tax Authority is aware of “suspicion of breach of duty for confidentiality for any taxpayer. ” The goal is to “defend the fundamental right of every taxpayer to tax secrecy,” added the same source.

The number surprised the union leaders, who have no memory of a few years ago this type of situation go beyond a dozen. As surprised the volume-finding processes to employees following the tax register of consulting the Prime Minister. There currently are 27 disciplinary proceedings opened as a result of this case, as reported this week the ‘Journal of Business’. One has already been filed.

The legal services of the Trade Union Association of Professional Inspection of the Tax and Customs (PATI) and the Tax Workers Union (STI) are monitoring these processes, some of which were motivated by “curiosity” guarantee. The sanction which may be applied to them have not yet been decided, but Nuno Barroso, president of APIC, do not want to believe that might punish is severely an employee only for this reason.
