The Government is preparing to create a special career where senior staff will be integrated currently working at the National Institute of Statistics (INE). The creation of this career had long been claimed by the president of the institute and provides the technicians have a minimum salary value of 52 euros.
The proposal, sent to the unions on Monday, starting to be discussed in the next 25 June and is similar to legislation that created a special career for some technicians from the Ministry of Finance.

In the introduction to the preliminary draft decree- law, the Presidency of the Council of Ministers (who supervises the INE) recognizes the “notorious difficulty to maintain and recruit senior technicians with the necessary qualifications (…) in view of the currently existing working conditions, the remuneration conditions and career development”. And therefore “becomes a priority to reverse the situation that the senior technicians of the INE are now subject.”
A new career is a response to calls from the president of INE, Alda Carvalho. At a hearing in Parliament, the responsible institute admitted that “at the limit” meet the obligations it has, and that “you can only have not failed due to workers’ effort.”

José Abraham remember that there are other organizations where it is “urgent” create better conditions for workers. This is the case of the Financial Management Institute of Social Security (IGFSS), which has scheduled a strike for the end of June in protest at the lack of a career that recognizes the specific nature of their work.
Also Directorate-General for employees of Administration and Public Employment (DGAEP) sent a letter to the Minister of Finance to claim a treatment similar to that given to workers of DGs who work directly with Maria Luís Albuquerque.
