Workers in part-time earn less and less since 2013 – Daily News – Lisbon

Average salary is 828 euros and is up since 2011, but at the expense of increase in salaries of full-time workers. INE shows that 80% of those part-time wanted to work more hours

The average net salary of 302,000 workers in part-time (part-time) was at the end of 2015 in 341 euros per month and has not stopped falling since 2013. on the contrary, the compensation of 3.4 million employed full time (35 or 40 hours, depending on the sector) is 865 euros per month and is growing in the last years.

Accounts made, the average net wage of workers on behalf of others (public sector and private sector) stood last year at 828 euros and is rising continuously at least since 2011, the year the troika arrived in Portugal. However, as can be seen by the numbers provided to DN / Money Live by the National Statistics Institute (INE), this increase has been at the expense of full time.

“Our development model is bad . There is a negative perception on the part-time. in the late 1970s, I suggested the part-time model for mothers with small children and I was not well understood, but it was and is common in Scandinavian countries. we are still stuck to the ideal employment for life, which has behind it benefits such as low and the payment of social security by the employer “, considers Pedro Ferraz da Costa, president of the Forum for Competitiveness. “Young people can earn in two part-time jobs more than a full time job, at least if we are talking about the new professions related to information and communication technologies”, adds the manager.

part-time workers are satisfied? It follows that not the salary average level and the respective development in recent years. But there are other data that points to the dissatisfaction: Nearly 80% of part-time workers (239,500 of 302,000) were in underemployment last year. That is, they had a job in which complied with a lower time duration that is normal for that job, stating that they would like to work more hours.

The minimum wage increased from 505 to 530 euros at startup this year. It is a raw value that is equivalent, in practice, an ordered liquid of approximately 472 euros. And this last value fits in step 310-600 euros, in the NSI identifies 963,000 full-time workers and 74,800 part-time. Put another way, more than a quarter of all workers for others earn between 310 and 600 euros. “The minimum wage increase was of the worst things that happened. Statistics INE soon showed declines in employment in the first months of the year. Employers retract due to rising costs of labor, especially when they have orders with price right now combined, “the former president of the CIP. INE’s figures confirm this trend. In January 2016, the provisional estimate of the employed population was 4,477,600 people, down by 0.1% from the previous month (4.4000). “And Portugal has another problem: the evolution of the minimum wage is towards increasing the average salary approach, something that has not happened in other countries.”

The government recently announced amendments setting at 550 euros deductions for child in personal income tax. The measure will benefit workers who earn up to 900 or a thousand euros. It’s what Rocha Andrade, Secretary of State for Fiscal Affairs, calls the “middle class.” The net figures presented by Statistics show that 60% of workers on behalf of others earn up to 900 euros; the level above 2,500 euros are only 1.43% of the total.
