The Secretary of State for Transport has booked the end of his speech at the 24th Congress of Communications, in Lisbon, the Socialist Party (PS). Sérgio Monteiro accused the main opposition party to make proposals for amendments to the State Budget (OE) “supported by subsidies,” when the Government takes before “free enterprise.”
The minister was referring, specifically, to the proposed changes in transportation. Last week, the PS proposed the enlargement of the social and passes the reintroduction of retirement supplements in loss-making public enterprises (which were paid by 2014 to mitigate the difference between final salary and the retirement of workers of the Lisbon Metro and rails). The Secretary of State has estimated that the two measures would have a negative impact of EUR 68 million in public funds.
According to Sérgio Monteiro, first proposed at a cost of € 45 million and the second to 23 million. “It’s more analysis supported the policy of subsidies and another [the government] on free enterprise,” he said.
The Secretary of State also was referring the fact that the PS has put an end to the agreement with Government as regards the reduction of the IRC. “Companies will have less ability to generate revenues that allow investing, hiring, strengthen the economy. We believe in a country of free enterprise in which employment is created by economics and not by the state,” he said.
The intervention the ruler, which preceded a panel discussion on transport (where were the president of TAP, the CP and the Roads of Portugal, for example, but also a former public officer that the Government resigned following the controversy of swaps, José Silva Rodrigues) also focused on the need for the sector to join forces communications.
“We need to democratize access to the communications infrastructure and transport sector. There is a wide field of cooperation between sectors, “he said.
PT, a matter of affection
the sidelines of the congress, Sérgio Monteiro was again questioned by reporters about the state’s role in the case of PT. Recall that the Angolan businesswoman Isabel dos Santos launched a takeover bid (OPA) for PT SGPS and there are already two proposed acquisition of PT Portugal.
“We are attentive to the movements, but a State intervention limits competition. We feel this deeply flawed argument, “he said, adding that note that there is a great affection towards PT. And soon after, he stressed that “taxpayers’ money can not be dependent on affection.”
Already on the privatization of TAP, which was relaunched last Thursday assuming, in a first phase, sale of 66% stake, Sérgio Monteiro reiterated that “having capital is critical to the future development” of the group.
The minister did not clarify whether the diploma has been sent to the President for promulgation. “It is in the sphere of competence of the Presidency of the Council of Ministers,” he said.
As to the situation in which the TAP group is today, Secretary of State argued that “today has a better economic condition than had before, “at the time that the first privatization attempt, which failed to reject the offer of German Efromovich, was launched in late 2012.
About the debt that Venezuela has with airline, which as reported PUBLIC around EUR 100 million, Sérgio Monteiro explained that it is a topic “that is being negotiated at the level of the International Air Transport Association”, adding that “there is an expectation that shortly a part Debt can be unlocked. “
