Loans of Portuguese banks from the European Central Bank (ECB) increased in November to 33,977 million euros, after 13 consecutive months of reducing exposure to finance, said on Thursday the Bank of Portugal.
According to figures released today by the institution led by Carlos Costa, according to Lusa, the value of ECB loans to banks totaled 33,997 million euros until November, more than 620 million in October, which corresponds to an increase of 1 92%.
The exposure of Portuguese banks to finance the ECB had been declining since September 2013, at the time corresponding to 51 847 million euros, which means that Portuguese banks could return in a year (until October) about 18,500 million.
The value of banks’ loan from the ECB in November remains still, the lowest amount since May 2012, when the exposure of Portuguese banks stood at 35,770 million euros.
Portuguese banks have resorted to the transfer of ECB liquidity to overcome the constraints felt in the European interbank market.
The maximum value was reached in June 2012, when the loans reached a record value of 60,502 million euros.
