The Minister of Labour, Solidarity and Social Security announced on Wednesday that it will launch a tender this year to more than 80 new Authority inspectors for Working Conditions (ACT).

During the debate on the State Budget specialty in 2016 that is taking place in Parliament, Vieira da Silva recalled that one of the priorities of the Government is to strengthen the ACT’s ability to, among other objectives, to fight precariousness market work.

in this sense, it has undertaken to complete the internal competition (released May 2015) which is taking place for the admission of 37 inspectors and to open a new procedure to allow the entry of new inspectors. The number is not yet closed, but “it will surely be more than 80 new inspectors,” approaching the international standards for this type of intervention, the minister said. The standards of the International Labour Organisation point to a ratio of one inspector per 10,000 workers.

The launch of a new competition was set out in the Government’s program, but it was not known how many would be admitted. This has also been a demand of the president of ACT.

Vieira da Silva also announced that priority will be given to the computer system upgrade ACT and the exchange of data between the Labour Inspectorate and Social Security. This possibility, he said, “makes it possible to identify more effectively the default risk areas [labor law].”

Asked by PS deputies, the minister acknowledged that ACT “has weaknesses that beyond the question of the number of inspectors “, namely at the level of senior technicians.
