Germany will have coins of 5 euros – Daily News – Lisbon

The coin features a blue plastic ring embedded in the metal, which aesthetically symbolizes the atmosphere.

Germany place on Thursday into circulation a new currency, five euros, a unique piece for collectors that can also be used as a payment method in the country.

as explained by the German Ministry of Finance, when in February presented the project, the issue is innovative not only for being the first currency of five euros as the materials used, a mixture of metals and plastics.

the new currency, called “Planet Earth,” presents a blue plastic ring embedded in the metal, which aesthetically symbolizes the atmosphere, but also contains security features that “make it very difficult” counterfeiting.

the German central bank, the Bundesbank, said that the new currency will be issued in two versions, one brighter than the other.

the first, with an issue 1.5 million units, can be purchased for 15.55 euros and will be valid as a means of payment, and the second, especially for collectors, will have an issue of 250,000 units with a value of 77.75 euros each.

the “Planet Earth” is a little bigger and heavier than a two-euro coin with a diameter of 27.25 mm and a weight of 9 grams.
