ATHENS – The Greek stock market will remain closed on Monday, but will reopen on Tuesday after a month of closure, officials said Reuters.
“It is true that not reopen on Monday, but perhaps Tuesday,” said a spokesman for the Stock Exchange Athens told Reuters on condition of anonymity.
Another person with direct relation to the matter confirmed that the Greek authorities plan to reopen the stock exchange on Tuesday.
The stock market remains closed from 29th June, when Athens closed her ailing banks and imposed capital controls to stem a run on savings that could have led to the collapse of the already tottering Greek financial system. The closure has jeopardized the place of the Athens stock exchange in the global indices of financial security.
The banks reopened on Monday and Greece sent a letter asking for opinion to the European Central Bank last week before the Greek finance ministry allowed the return of the stock market operations since Monday.
The employee of the Athens Stock Exchange only said that Greece needed more time to finalize details that would allow the reopening of the stock market based on the approval of the ECB.
