NEW YORK (Reuters) – South Korea’s Samsung came up recently on the BlackBerry the purchase of the company by up to $ 7.5 billion, seeking access to the Canadian company’s patent portfolio, according to a person close to the matter and documents to which was obtained by Reuters.
Samsung proposed price from 13.35 to 15.49 per share, representing a premium 38-60 percent over the current price of BlackBerry’s shares, the source said.

The BlackBerry announced a security-focused partnership with Samsung in November. The partnership would unite the BlackBerry security platform with Samsung security software for its Galaxy devices.
