At the entrance to the press conference following the Council of Ministers, Mota Soares considered as good the decline in unemployment and said the figures released by the National Statistics Institute (INE) show the normalization of the labor market.
The INE announced today that the unemployment rate (from 15 to 74 years) estimated for December in Portugal is 13.4%, down 0.1 percentage points than estimated in November.
“These unemployment figures give hope and confidence to the Portuguese to return to the labor market,” said Mota Soares.
According to INE, the seasonally adjusted number of unemployed was estimated at 689.6 thousand people in December, representing a decrease of 0.7% compared to November 2014 (under 4800).
The employed population (15-74 years) also seasonally adjusted, was estimated at 4,441,500 people, increasing 0.1% (over 6400) from the previous month.
