The E-invoice program to combat the black economy, allowed the tax authorities identify tax irregularities in 235 337 companies last year alone. However, about 75 percent of these companies have regularized the situation.
According to the Ministry of Finance, 74 000 of these companies are located in Lisbon, 35 in Porto, 18 000 and 13 000 in Setúbal in Braga.
Some of the most common irregularities are not to pay the VAT on invoices, the lack of the same statement of delivery and the VAT return values below settled in invoices issued. These irregularities are detected when contributors include the tax identification number on invoices, which are then not provided by the companies that issue them to the Tax Authority.
The E-bill program has also established that about one million and one hundred thousand authorities reported last year, invoices to the tax authorities, registering a 11 percent increase for 2013.
The fight against the black economy earned EUR 814 million in 2014 and the total of the issued and communicated to the Tax Authority bills also rose 12.3 percent this year compared to 2013, from 4.2 million to 4.8 million invoices.
