Unemployment falls to 13.7% in March – News Journal

According to estimates released by the National Statistics Institute (INE), the unemployed , estimated at 712,900 people, recorded a quarterly increase of 2.1% and an annual decrease of 9 5% (over 14 600 and 75 200 people less, respectively).

You employed population was estimated at 4,477,100 people, representing a quarterly decrease of 0.3% (less 14,500 people) and an annual increase of 1.1% (over 50,200 people).

According to the INE, the annual decrease in the unemployment rate was found for both men (2.0 pp) and for women (0.8 pp).

By region NUTS II (Territorial Units for statistical purposes) in the 1st quarter the unemployment rate was higher than the national average in the Algarve (16.4%), wood (15.8%), Alentejo (15.5%), Azores (14.9%) , the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (14.2%) and North (14.2%), leaving only the Central region (11.1%) below the national average.

Compared to the previous quarter, Unemployment rose in Algarve (1.5 pp), Alentejo (1.0 pp), Madeira (0.7 pp), center (0.4 pp) and the Lisbon Metropolitan Area (0.2 pp), whereby remained unchanged in the North and decreased 0.6 pp in the Azores.
