Destroyed 4554 jobs per month

Majority and opposition to war numbers.

 By Jose Rodrigues

The unemployment rate fell in June to 11.9% (a total of 620 000 unemployed persons), the lowest for the past four years. But according to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE) released on Wednesday, the employed population fell 218,600, that is, since the Government took office, were destroyed every month 4554 jobs.

Responding to the INE figures, most PSD / CDS says “make history” and the minister of employment, Mota Soares says they are a “sign of hope and that” Portugal came around. ” In fact, when José Socrates left the government in 2011, the unemployment rate was 12.4% (658,700 unemployed) and is now 11.9% (620 400), which means a net profit of less 38 300 unemployed. The PS, by the voice of Ana Catarina Mendes, accusing the government of “manufacturing statistics” also complained that the story of these four years is “the greatest destruction of jobs in Portugal in the last 50 years.”

The official employment data will therefore continue to serve as a political thrown weapon and the reason is because they allow two readings: one positive, in that there are fewer unemployed, and a negative in that there is less jobs. In the 2nd quarter of 2011, the employed population was 4,799,400, and in the 2nd quarter of this year is 4 580 800. They are therefore least 218 600 people in the labor market. Emigration (the last four years left Portugal about 300 thousand people), reform and discouraged shall form the basis of this destruction of jobs. It is for this reason that the Member of the PS said that the unemployment data in 2015 “are not comparable with the 2011 data.”
