Mexico “concerned” about the cancellation of the transport sub – TVI24

The ambassador of Mexico in Portugal said today to be a “major concern for the Government” of their country cancellation of the sub public transport in Lisbon, including the Metro and Carris, won by Mexican ADO / Avanza.

In a statement, the Mexican Embassy said the ambassador Alfredo Perez Bravo, who took part today in an event organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry Luso-Mexican, commented on the good relations that have been developed with Portugal and increased presence of Portuguese companies in Mexico.

However, he said, “it does not happened with the Mexican company ADO Avanza, which won an international tender, the contract for the sub city bus Carris and Lisbon Metro.”

“Your sudden cancellation generated a major concern for the Government of Mexico and uncertainty among Mexican players, thus affecting economic relations between the two countries,” he added.
Alfredo Perez Bravo showed up, however, confident that the situation will be resolved “soon” and that “economic ties” between Portugal and Mexico be resumed.

The sub public transport companies was launched by the government of Passos Coelho (PSD / CDS-PP), which awarded the Avanza exploitation of Carris and Lisbon Metro, the British National Express, which owns Spanish Alsa, STCP (Porto road) and the French Transdev the Metro do Porto.

However, nine days after coming into office, the executive António Costa (PS) suspended “with immediate effect” the process.

Today, the Minister of Environment, Matos Fernandes, who supervises urban transport, said that the purpose of granting Lisbon and Oporto services do not imply any compensation and noted that the management of road transport should be made by the authorities.
