There is agreement between the Government and the Union of Portuguese Nurses. From 1 July, all nurses (public and individual function) are working 35 hours.
The understanding was reached this morning after a meeting between the Ministry of Health and union of Portuguese nurses (SEP).
the union leader Guadalupe Simões, said the TSF have been “assured that the 35 hours it will apply to all nurses at the same time,” from 1 July.
in other words, this time covers workers who have employment contract in public functions and those who have individual employment contracts and “were working 40 hours”.
“it is recognized by the Ministry of Health the situation of exhaustion that are nursing teams,” said Guadalupe Simões.
at the same time, the government should “in the next two months” to fulfill the commitment made in Parliament to hire new nurses.

according to SEP there are 13,000 nurses with individual employment contracts, of which 4,600 are currently working 35 hours.
