Demand global airline grows 8.8% in December from December 2015, says Iata – State of Minas

São Paulo 02 – The global demand for air travel grew 8.8% in December 2016 in comparison with the same month of 2015, reported on Thursday, 2, the International Air Transport Association (Iata, its acronym in English). Already the global offering for air travel has advanced 6.6% in December in comparison with the same period of 2015. Thus, as the demand grew at a higher pace than the supply, the occupancy rate of the aircraft has improved and reached 80.6% in December to a high of 1.6 percentage point (p.p.) on the annual basis.

Separating the regions, Iata points out that the largest increase in the occupancy rate overall in December occurred in Europe. The index reached 80,6%, a growth rate of 2.5 p.p. on annual basis, with demand advancing by 10.7% and the offer is expanding at 7.2%.

on the other hand, the occupancy rate in North America has advanced just 0.1 p.p. in December to 83% (the increases in demand and supply have been of 3.1% and 3%, respectively) – despite this, North America is the region that presents the highest rate of occupancy. The market with the lowest rate in December was the Africa, with 71.6% to a growth of 0.3 p.p. on the annual basis (the demand increased by 5.8% and supply rose by 5.3%).

Domestic

In the domestic segment of global, the entity informs that the demand has advanced 7.1% in December, while the supply grew by 5.8% on annual basis. In this way, the occupancy rate of the domestic to the global has increased 1 p.p., to 81,5%.

The Iata points out, however, that the regional results of the domestic segment are still ranging fairly between themselves. India, China and Russia showed a strong growth in demand, 23.7%, 16.9% and 13,4%, respectively, while Brazil recorded a drop of 1.9% of the domestic demand in December.

Still in relation to the brazilian market, the data from Iata show that the domestic supply in December had a fall more strong, 4.3% on annual basis, taking the occupancy rate domestic increase of 1.9 p.p., for 81,7%.

the International

In the international segment, the global demand increased by 9.7% in December on annual basis, with the supply growing at 7.2% – with this, the occupancy rate increased by 1.9 p.p., to 80,2%. Iata points out that all regions of the world (Asia-Pacific, Europe, the Middle East, North America, Latin America and Africa) registered an increase in international demand in the month.
