Motorists protest movement ban in the city center – More than two hundred motorists traveled on Sunday, some areas of the city idling in protest against the prohibition for previous vehicles to the year 2000, in the city center imposed by the city for environmental reasons.
Since January 15 that the municipality led by António Costa (PS) banned cars with previous enrollment to 2000 to move, between 7 am and 21 pm on weekdays, in downtown Lisbon and at the waterfront of the city, due to emissions.
“The House exceeded all that is reasonable in the discrimination of people based on their economic capacity may or may not have a newer car. We are talking about previous cars to 2000, which constitute a significant part of the Portuguese fleet ‘, criticized James Nunes, w ho organized the protest through social networks.
The protesters demand the annulment of the movement limitation currently in effect.
According to the municipal director of Mobility and Transport, James Farias, restrictions on car traffic in the Reduced Emissions Zones (ZER) Lisbon not intended to exclude vehicles but meet European standards of air quality.
