The European Commission has been identified as one of the responsible for the way that Banif took and which culminated in the resolution and sale of much of the bank Santander, already during the current government. After having plumbed successive restructuring plans and have required a solution by the end of 2015, before the criticism and accusations, the Commissioner that accompanied the process, Margrethe Vestager, asked to be heard by the inquiry committee.

“the commission has been mentioned several times in hearings to the Portuguese government, so we would like to give substantial answers to some questions that may arise”

Commissioner also stated that “a first step, there was a request to exchange some papers,” that will “carry”, but Brussels wants to even respond to Members in the committee.

the governor of the Bank of Portugal for example, he told MPs that supported the possibility of Banif be integrated in the Caixa Geral de Depósitos, but Brussels blocked this solution it was proposed by the Government.

other hand, the purpose of the Public newspaper article that reports that the Ample Harvest investment Capital, a fund of Chinese investment was available to pay, in May 2015, 700 million euros for the actions the State bank, Brussels fled to comment why the Portuguese government did not want to sell to that Banif fund.

The purpose of this news, the former Finance Minister Maria Luis Albuquerque, came today to clarify that the Chinese investor “was not even a contest” and that the interest expressed did not pass of that.

it is true that seven months later, the Banif was sold for much less (150 million) to Santander bank, with losses for the state that can reach 3 billion.
