The Consumer Price Index (CPI) registered an annual increase of 0.3% in May, against 0.5% in April, in monthly terms is set in 0.3% (0.4% in April), according to the INE.
According to the National Statistics Institute (INE), in May 2016, the core inflation index, corresponding to the total index excluding unprocessed food and energy, showed a year growth equal to the previous month (0.8%).
at a more disaggregated level, by expenditure classes, INE highlights the decreases in annual rates of change of clothing and footwear class and transport, with variations of -0.8% and -1.3%, respectively (zero growth and -0.9% in the previous month).
on the other hand, it is noted increasing annual rate of change of the class of restaurants and hotels and leisure, recreation and culture, with variations of 2.2% and 0.9% respectively (2.0% and 0.7% in April).
in classes with negative contributions to the annual change in the CPI, the INE highlights the transport, mainly due to the decrease in subgroup prices on the fuel, and health.
the classes with positive contributions more relevant were the restaurants and hotels and communications, he added.
in monthly terms, the class with the largest positive contribution to the monthly growth rate of the total index was transport, with a monthly variation 1.0% (0.8% in the previous month and 1.3% in May 2015).
the class with the highest negative contribution to the monthly rate of change, in turn, was the clothing and footwear, with a monthly change of -0.6% (0.8% in the previous month and 0.2% in May 2015).
The average change over the last twelve months stood at 0.6%, equal to the value recorded in April.
The Harmonised Index of Consumer Prices (HICP) Portuguese registered an annual increase of 0.4%, down 0.1 percentage points to verified in the previous month and higher by 0.5 percentage points estimated by Eurostat for the Euro area (difference of 0.2 percentage points to the registered in April).
the monthly rate of change of the HICP stood the themselves in 0.4% (the same amount in the previous month and 0.5% in May 2015) and the average rate of the last twelve months was 0.6% (equal to the value recorded in April).
