Study: SCUT the price decrease would increase revenue from tolls – TVI24

A study of Infrastructure Portugal, commissioned by the previous government on the fall in prices in the former SCUT, argues that the measure would increase revenues from tolls, information confirmed by the current executive.

The study, that the TSF had access and released today, was conducted at the request of the previous government PSD-CDS, although its findings have never been known, not been put into practice, emerging now, at a time when the current executive has announced it will down the tolls on some SCUT, but has not yet revealed when or values.

According to TSF, who made several calculations, joining the estimated results for the seven SCUT, the scenario is that the recipe overall increase by about 22 million, and only two of the seven highways would give less money than if prices stay the same, no descents.

in the TSF, source of the Ministry of Planning and Infrastructure advanced that had aware that the completion of the study, ie, that the fall in prices would result in an increase in revenues of SCUT, not showing surprised because after the introduction of toll traffic decreased significantly in those ways.

the government led by the socialist Antonio Costa also said that the conclusion of the study was taken into account in the decision to lower the tolls inside the country already this summer, although not yet known the new tariffs, not the date that they enter into force.

according to the study, the gains in revenue from tolls would be especially large on the A23 (motorway of Beira Interior) and the A22 (Via do Infante, Algarve), since, with a reduction of 15%, both surrender individually more than five million euros.

the study of Infrastructure Portugal (former Estradas de Portugal) also reveals that only the former SCUT A4 (Grande Porto) and A28 (North Coast), would give less revenue to see prices decrease, and the increase would also be expected on the A25 (motorway of Beiras Litoral e Alta), A29 (freeway the Silver Coast) and A24 (North Interior motorway).

According to calculations, joining the estimated values for the seven assessed motorways, in all cases studied, the state would be making money to go down the prices, even if this decline came to 35%.
