The company area, the Portuguese TAP has increased its number of passengers by 3.5% during 2016, to 11.7 million. The TAP has exceeded so the barrier of 11 million for the first time.
The information was revealed by the company this Monday, the 15th January. In the past year, the flights had an occupancy rate average 78.6%.
The biggest highlight goes to the routes in North America, after you created the new routes to Boston and to the airport J. F. K in New York city. The company already flew to Miami, and Newark. The rise in month-to-month on these routes was 65%, with 472 thousand passengers, over 186 thousand on the previous year.
Also, the “air-bridge” between Lisbon and Porto – one of the bets of the new private management of the company, after the purchase by Humberto Pedrosa and David Neeleman – is to be able to retain and increase the number of passengers. Were 300 thousand, more than 80% of that in 2015.
Brazil and Africa, the other two geographies strategic to the TAP, are also “in recovery”. While Africa – where TAP has strengthened the presence in Marrakech and Casablanca, for example, rose by 10% to 800 thousand passengers, Brazil reached the mark of 1.4 million.
The carrier recalls that recorded in the last quarter of 2016 a “traffic growth consistent”. In October, the increase was 12.2%, in November 25% December 26%.
The current network of TAP covers 76 destinations in 30 countries, with the company making about 2,500 flights per week.
last December, president Fernando Pinto announced that TAP would have six new destinations in 2017. The list is composed by Toronto, Las Palmas, Alicante, Stuttgart, Bucharest and Budapest.
