In 2016 the best selling car in Sweden was not a Volvo – the Daily News – Lisbon

The last time that had happened was in 1962, with the Beetle Volkswagen

For the first time in over 50 years the best selling car of the year in Sweden is not a Volvo. In 2016, the honor went to the Volkswagen Golf, which has claimed at 5.9% of sales. The models V70, S90 and V90 Volvo totaled, the three of them together, to 5.7%.

The Golf follows the Beetle, and also Volkswagen, which in 1962 had been the last to steal the leadership to the Volvo models.

Even so, recalls the BBC, Volvo continues to lead the automobile market in Sweden, with 21.5% of the market share, against 15.7% of the Volkswagen.

Volvo, the Swedish company founded in 1927, is currently owned by the chinese Zhejiang Geely Holding Group.
