Juncker did not leave Brussels to meet with Marcelo and Costa – Jornal de Negócios – Portugal

Jean-Claude Juncker has cancelled coming to Lisbon, which was scheduled for today, due to my time that was reported in the capital. The president of the European Commission should meet at 11:30 with Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa, in Bethlehem, to an audience, and with António Costa, at 13:00, for lunch. In the afternoon, he would participate in a session of the Seminar, the Diplomatic. Although the Presidency have stated that the flight Juncker was delayed due to the fog, the president of the Commission not even to embark on any aircraft.

The justification official for the cancellation of the visit was sent by the European Commission representation in Lisbon, at 13:18. “The intense fog that was felt this morning in Lisbon and the resulting congestion of air traffic and airport infrastructure has prevented the President of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, to travel today as expected to the Portuguese capital”.

During the morning (at 10:01), the Presidency of the Republic came to send an e-mail to newsrooms in which he said that the hearing would be postponed because “the President of the European Commission has had a delay on the flight, which was headed to Lisbon, due to bad weather”.

The Business, official source of the European Commission recognized that Jean-Claude Juncker did not embark on any flight, due to weather and “the consequent congestion of the airport”. “We hoped that the situation would improve throughout the morning but this did not happen”, explained the same source.

Actually, the operation airport in Lisbon were guests this morning due to dense fog that covered virtually the entire city (similar to what happened in the last few days), and that is still a bottleneck for air traffic. Still, until mid-morning, only two flights had been cancelled, having five diverged to the Porto and Faro. Until 17:15, had already been cancelled seven flights and 11 had diverged – nine to Port and two to Faro, reported the spokesman of the ANA to the Business.

TAP Flights and Ryanair arrive late, but land

in Spite of the constraints, the two flights that Juncker could have caught to to arrive in time for the meeting with Marcelo landed the two in Lisbon, and none had to deviate to another airport. The safest option would be to have opted for flight 611 of the TAP. This flight took off from Brussels with a 51-minute delay at the 7:06), but made up for on the trip and landed 25 minutes beyond the scheduled time, at 8:25.

The flight 2925 Ryanair was more troublesome. The unit came out of Brussels with almost two hours late, at 10:05 (should have left at 8:15) and landed in Lisbon at 11:28, a delay of almost an hour and a half in the face of the expected arrival time (10:05). The aircraft still was on hold for five minutes before you have permission to land at the airport Humberto Delgado.

Both devices ended up, however, by land, and if Juncker had embarked on any of them would have been able to get to Lisbon.

The Business, the same source as the European Commission explains that it has not yet been successful no date for Jean-Claude Juncker to go to Lisbon. “We will, naturally, try to find another opportunity in the near future”.
