Growth in the euro area slows in September, says Markit – Reuters

The PMI (Purchasing Managers Index) composed of the euro zone reached 52.3 points in September against 52.3 in August, posting the second consecutive monthly decline and the lowest level since the beginning of the year.

A PMI index points below 50 means contraction, while one higher indicates expanding activity.

This index includes both manufacturing production and business activity in the services sector.

So, in cumulative terms of the third quarter the PMI stood at 52.9 points, the lowest quarterly figure in years.

However, the PMI index of business activity in the sector Eurozone services reached 52.8 against 53.1 in August, reaching the minimum value in the last three months.

The PMI index of industrial sector was 50.5 points (50.7 points August), the minimum of the last 14 months, while the production of the industrial sector stood at 51 points, remaining unchanged from the previous month.

By country, Markit stresses that the most rapid growth in Germany, driven by the services sector was offset by persistent backed by France and by slowing the growth of the rest of the euro zone
