Last year was a decline in the number of Portuguese companies operating in the trade sector and the number of jobs also fell, but the total turnover was in line with the previous year.
Lisbon – The volume of trade business in Portugal stabilized in 2013, around 120 billion euros, in line with the value achieved in the previous year, according to the National Statistics Institute (INE).
“The total value of Commercial revenue obtained by the trading companies amounted to 20.2 billion euros, 0.8% in 2012, corresponding to about 87,000 euros per company (+ 0.9% yoy), “also said INE.
According to the same source, it was observed last year a decrease of 1.7% in the number of companies operating in the trading sector in Portugal, which increased to 232 760. Employment in the sector also fell: down 2.8%, for a total of 733,000 workers
In 2013, the business structure of trade was essentially made up of companies with fewer than 50 persons employed (99. 6% of the total), although its turnover only represented 58% of total sector.
