Wood Hospitality Trade Union maintains strike for the holidays – Journal News

“We are available to talk and there is still time,” said the union leader of Madeira sector, Leonel Nunes, at a press conference.

The union pointed out that “at this stage, the eve of the scheduled strike, there was no interest from employers and regional Tourism Human Resources departments or [government of Madeira] to sit, to understand and try to overcome a problem that can be in the future, the end of the goose that lays the golden eggs in the [tourism] region. ”

In Madeira there are about 5000 workers in the hotel and this time of year is one of the most important for the sector, and the Madeiran government perspetivado that the occupation in the various units, in what is considered the biggest tourist attraction, the end of year stands at 90%.

Leonel Nunes said that negotiations in this sector “result a year ago,” adding that “the response of employers to workers, who are without pay increases for two years, was a wage increase of zero.”

The leader of this Madeiran union considered that the goal of employers “is a total debacle and is putting the [collective bargaining] agreement at square one.”

“They want to put workers to make slavery times, and you can go up to 60 hours per week, and there are other abuses, bullying and arrogance that employers have been exercising these days,” said Leonel Nunes.
