Electricity consumption increased by 3% in January
Low temperatures increase energy consumption.
Electricity consumption increased by 3% in January compared with the same period due to the low temperatures that were felt over the first month of the 2015.
According to the REN – National Energy Networks in January were consumed in Portugal 4,712 gigawatt hours (GWh), compared with 4,575 GWh the same month in 2014, when the temperatures were well above average , and 4,418 GWh December 2014.
But, with correction for temperature effects and number of working days, the electricity consumption fell by 0.7% in January, extending the trend of 2014 when consumption fell 0.7% over the previous year, corresponding to a decline of 6.5% from the peak in 2010.
