Funeral of José da Silva Lopes planned for … – RTP


 

 

 José da Silva Lopes, economist, former finance minister and former governor of the Bank of Portugal, died on Thursday in Lisbon, aged 82, after being hospitalized for a few days.
 

 The funeral “will be held in the afternoon on Monday,” he told Lusa agency’s sister economist, Beatriz Martins, explaining that “the date is not yet closed” because it awaited the arrival of relatives living abroad.
 

 Before he died, Silva Lopes revealed some family members who preferred that at your funeral, people do not they spent money on flowers, which “would not serve anyone,” said Beatriz Martins.
 

 Silva Lopes “thought the flowers would not serve anyone and therefore in their thinking economist, asked who thought offering flowers to spend money with a child support institution. It could be the equivalent of a clove a pink, whatever they wanted, but to turn to the Office of Child Support (IAC). I thought it would be useful to buy drugs and what the children they needed “, stressed the sister economist.
 

 Silva Lopes began his career at the Ministry of Economy in 1955, in 1969 joined the board of directors of CGD and between 1975 and 1980 was Governor of the Bank of Portugal.
 

 He joined the first four governments in the post-April 25, was IMF and World Bank consultant, having recently played the role of president of Montepio Geral.
