António Costa wants to “recover” the state in driving innovation – Digital Journal

 The general secretary of the PS argued today that the public sector should be “engine” in promoting innovation and contradicted the most liberal theories that reject an entrepreneur State to block the role of the private sector in the economy.
 

António Costa spoke at the end of a symposium entitled “More and better innovation economy”, promoted by the PS at ISEG (School of Economics and Management) and counted with the presence of Italian economist and university professor Mariana Mazzucato.

“Contrary to what the right says, the entrepreneur State is not the public sector in combat or in dispute with the private sector. The state can and should have a catalytic and multiplier effect” in development of innovation, supported the socialist leader.

In his speech, Mr Costa welcomed the scientific work that has been developed by Mariana Mazzucato, whereas this work helps social democratic left to “recover and reinvent their vocabulary. “
