Mercadona will hire 120 staff in Portugal to enter the country in 2019 – RTP

During 18 months, the new frames direction will conduct a training program in which Mercadona will invest more than 50,000 euros per worker, says in a statement the Spanish group, quoted by Efe.

The program will allow these pictures to learn about the quality model, gain skills in management and start to know the different departments of the Spanish supermarket chain.

Director of Training and Human Resources Mercadona, Javier Casans, when talking about the recruitment of 120 frames of Portuguese direction said: “In Portugal we also want to be a reference company in the creation of stable and quality employment”.

The company is looking for graduates in the Portuguese universities with graduate or master’s degree in Economics, Business Administration, Law, Architecture and Engineering.

The Mercadona announced in June that it will open four supermarkets in Portugal in 2019, which will be the first units outside Spain.

The investment is valued at EUR 25 million and will allow to create about 200 jobs in this first phase of international expansion of the Spanish group.

The company chaired by Juan Roig chose Portugal for being “a close market of Spain, proximity logistics and that fits in the organic and natural growth of the company.”

The Mercadona is a family owned company that was founded in 1977 by Cárnicas Roig group.

In 1981, Juan Roig took over the company, which began operating as an independent company.

Currently, Juan Roig and his wife Hortensia Herrero, are the controlling shareholders of the company, holding more than 80% of its capital.

The Mercadona earned 20,831 million euros in 2015, has 1,587 supermarkets in Spain and employs 76,000 workers with permanent contracts.
