What we know about the attack on the church in France – Renaissance (press release)

France continues to live horror moments after the attack carried out in a church in Normandy, which killed the parish priest.

Two men entered, on Tuesday, in a church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvrav in the diocese of Rouen, during the celebration of the Eucharist.

The local priest, Jacques Hamel, 84, was eventually beheaded. One of the faithful who attended the celebration, between life and death.

The Islamic state has claimed the attack.

• The attack began minutes before 10:00 am, Tuesday, July 26, in a church in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray

• inside the church were a priest, three nuns and two faithful

• the two hijackers entered the back of the church

• one of the nuns managed to escape and told police

• following the kidnapping Father Jacques Hamel 84 years turned out to be beheaded

• One of the hostages was seriously injured

• the kidnapping ended after an hour with the French riot police to beat the two hijackers when they went out to the lobby of the church

• At the time of entry the kidnappers shouted “Islamic State”

• hours later, the Islamic State claimed the attack by a statement released news agency Amaq

• The newspaper “Le Point” said one of the kidnappers is less

• François Hollande expressed his sympathy with all Catholics. The French President said that “the Islamic State declared war” and now must “fight it with all means”

• The Vatican condemns the attack. The Pope described the priest’s murder as a “barbarous death”

• The French Prime Minister, Manuel Valls, expressed its horror at the attack and states that “all of France and all Catholics were hit “

• the archbishop of Rouen, D. Dominique Lebrun is back to Normandy to meet with President Francois Hollande. D. Dominique Lebrun was in Krakow in World Youth Day and ask for prayer and fellowship to believers and nonbelievers.

• The Portuguese Episcopal Conference (CEP) has repudiated the attack on Tuesday. Manuel Barbosa, the CEP spokesman expects that “corresponds to a stress monitoring these actions of violence and death.”
