The unemployment rate in May, from 10.1% in the euro area and 8.6% in the European Union (EU), the lowest level since July 2011 and March 2009, according to Eurostat .

in the euro zone, the unemployment rate of 10.1% compared with 11.0% in the same month of 2015 and 10.2% in April. In the EU, 8.6% is below 9.6% the same month last year and 8.7% in April.

According to the official statistics office of the EU, unemployment rates more losses were recorded in the Czech Republic (4.0%), Malta (4.1%) and Germany (4.2%), while the highest was observed in Greece (24.1% in March) and Spain (19.8%).

with regard to youth unemployment, the rate was in May, from 20.7% in the euro area (22.4% against the year) and 18.6 % in the EU (down from 20.6% year). Malta (6.9%), Germany (7.2%) and Czech Republic (10.1%) recorded the lowest youth unemployment rates, while Greece (50.4% in March), Spain (43.9 %), Italy (36.9%) and Croatia (31.4%) the highest.

in Portugal, the unemployment rate stood at 11.9%, the first record since 2010 the monthly unemployment rate stood below 12%.

you have to go back to April 2010 to find a 11.9%, recording from that month an upward trend until the its historical peak of 17.4% in January 2013.

the May rate was stable from the previous month, with the youth unemployment standing at 28.6%, a decrease of 1, 2 percentage points over the previous month.
