More than half a million workers looks forward to the increase in the national minimum wage (NMW) from the current 530 euros for a value that should be discussed on Thursday between the Government and the social partners, to be in force in 2017.
The executive of the socialist presented, in his program of Government, a proposal to increase the minimum WAGE to the legislature, starting from 530 euros in 2016 and ending in the 600 euros in 2019.

To reach up to 600 euros in 2019, the minimum WAGE would be 557 euros in 2017 and 580 in 2018, but nothing is decided yet and the Government still has not spoke in values to the social partners.
THE NMW was frozen at 485 € between 2011 and October 2014, when it increased to 505 euros, following an agreement established between the Government, employer confederations and the UGT.
According to the Government estimates, raising the minimum wage would benefit, at least 650 thousand workers.
The establishment of the NMS was one of the achievements of April 1974 and the benefited at the time about half of the Portuguese workers, who have to win over 3,300 escudos per month.
The decree-law that created the NMS, dated as of may 27, 1974, states that the measure would benefit about 50% of the active population and in the public sector would cover more than 68% of the workers.The first NMS was 16.5 euros and in the following year had an increase of 12.1% through to 18.5 euros.

In 2012, for the first time since its creation, this remuneration has not been increased, keeping in 485 euros, that represented a loss of purchasing power of 1.5% compared to 2010. The freeze was maintained until October 2014, when he passed for 505 euros.
