Banking with 468 ME profits in the first half – TVI24

The Portuguese banking sector has lived worse days. The four strongest banks returned to profit in the first six months of this year. The change of scenery was really remarkable, since posted results 20 times higher than last year.

In the first six months of last year, the results of the BCP, BPI, Santander Totta and Caixa Geral de Depósitos (CGD) stood at around 84 million euros, but this year, in total, profits soared to 468 million euros.

The Santander Totta was the last of these banks to submit their accounts. Santander Totta had profits of 103.6 million euros in the first half of the year, an increase of 29.2% over the same period.

But beyond Santander Totta also BCP and BPI have reason to be satisfied.

The BPI had profits of 76.2 million euros in the first half against 106.6 million euro loss in the first six months of last year.

Already the Millennium bcp, which last year had 62.2 million euros of losses in the first half, eventually recover this year with profits of 240.7 million euros.

As for the CGD, profits in the first half fell 57% to 47.1 million euros, compared to the same period last year. The profits of 110 million in 2014 have been achieved through capital gains from the sale of Loyalty.
