The Government has already decided to move forward with the construction of two new stations of the Metro of Lisbon. The extension of the Yellow Line from the Mouse to the Cais do Sodré with the construction of two new stations, the Star and the Saints, should be completed by 2021, said the minister of the Environment in statements to the newspaper Public. Matos Fernandes added that this is a investment valued at 215 million euros.
According to Matos Fernandes, the decision to give priority to the expansion of the Yellow Line was taken after you have been assessed, the extension of the Red Line to Alcântara. The option was taken because there were already uncertain about the form of financing and because it allows direct connection between the waterfront and the city centre which at the moment is one of the great problems of mobility in Lisbon, adds the minister.
Currently, the green line makes that connection, but if we consider the area of the Marquês de Pombal and avenidas novas as the most central, this route on the metro requires a change of line.
According to Matos Fernandes, technical studies and financial are completed, missing the environmental impact study. The work announced has an extension 1.900 meters of the Yellow line and can be launched in 2018.
Also in Lisbon, the Government wants to find a solution to finance the connection to the Field of Ourique.
As to the expansion of the Porto Metro, the strategy is still being discussed with the municipalities. In question is investment of the order of 270 million euros.
