The numbers of SIBS, the manager of the network of cash machines, only confirm what we already recognized: the Portuguese are more confident and spent more this Christmas than in the previous year. Between withdrawals and payments through the multibanco network made in the month preceding the 25th of December, the Portuguese moved €5,674 thousand million, a growth of 7.3% over the period identical to that of 2015, according to data from the SIBS, disclosed this Tuesday.
The fact that it has been reset a part of the cuts made in the salaries of the Public Administration following the entry of the troika in Portugal, in 2011, contributed to a growth in expenses. But the increase in the value of purchases also indicates a greater optimism of the Portuguese, which translated into about 380 million euros in withdrawals and purchases through the network of atm (boxes and automatic payment terminals) this year in the christmas season.
