Thousands of independent workers are not making the retention of tax at source although they have already exceeded the limit of ten thousand euros of annual income that allows them this exemption. The flaw, identified by the tax authorities, gave rise to notifications to a group of over seven thousand contributors, advances the Daily News on the issue this Thursday.
The withholding tax is waived for the self-employed who have earned in the previous year, income up to ten thousand euros paid by taxable persons with organized accounting.
The Daily News/Live Money, the Ministry of Finance confirmed that the Tax and Customs Authority (AT) has sent e-mail to 7167 contributors that exceeded the limit provided in the rules of the IRS "during the year of 2015 or in 2016, up to the moment analysis (September)".
"About 30% have changed their behavior in the month following, through to issuing invoices, or invoices-invoice with withholding tax, and the Tax and Customs Authority to monitor the development in the periods that follow", it clarifies the ministry led by Mário Centeno.
To the same publication, Paula Franco, consultant of the Order of Accountants Certificates, note that the e-mail of Finance are contacts alert, with which the AT seeks to promote voluntary fulfilment of tax obligations of these taxpayers, but, writes the DN – the habit has shown that cases of irregularities have given rise to the application of sanctions, when the situation endures.
