Retail sales accelerate in November – Jornal de Negócios – Portugal

sales in the retail trade sector accelerated in the month of November, benefitting from a boost in consumption of food products compared to last year.

According to the figures released this Friday, the 30th of December, by the National Institute of Statistics, the index of sales in retail trade grew by 4.3% in November of 2016 compared with the same month of 2015.

This jump compared to the last year already had been seen in previous months of this year, but in November was larger than in October, with 4.3% compare with 3.9% in October, points out the INE.

This increase is common across all types of retail trade, but the statistical institute points out the outstanding performance of food products, with the index rising by 4.6% compared to November of 2015 (and compared with the 3.8% of October). On food products there was also an increase of 4% yoy, the same evolution that had already been registered in October.

Now when compared in the chain, that is, in the face of October this year, the index of turnover in retail trade rose globally, a decrease of 1.3%, says the INE.

At the level of employment, the index recorded an annual variation of 2.8% in November, giving the note a slight deceleration (0.2 percentage points) in growth compared to October.

as for the index of wages advanced by 6.5% and hours worked by 1.4% in homologous terms, points out the INE.
