The Institute for Educational Assessment (IAVE) today released the report on the intermediate testing of students in the 2nd year of the 1st cycle of basic education that, by first time, allow to draw results on the evolution of learning of children, to be able to compare results of four academic years of 2010-2011 to 2013-2014, specifies the body.

According to the report, students of 2nd grade still have many weaknesses to Portuguese and Mathematics, the two disciplines that students of the 1st cycle are intermediate tests, created with the purpose of enabling an “early diagnosis of students’ difficulties”

In the case of the Portuguese language, the IAVE identifies writing, grammar, and reading -. the latter especially the difficulties highlighted in terms of interpretation of texts – as the three areas in which to invest “a more specific intervention”

At the level of writing, the main problems of students in the 2nd year. focus on the structure of the text and spelling, and the IAVE recommends a “recurring practice of writing” to minimize the difficulties of composition.

“In the test applied in 2014, only 39% of the students developed a coherent text and only 38% of students used appropriate vocabulary in the production of the same text, “the report said.

In the reading, we highlight difficulties in literacy.
